Hamida Aman

Afghan media entrepreneur, Hamida was born in Kabul. When she was 8, with her family, she fled the war and found refuge in Switzerland. She studied journalism and worked for the Swiss print media when the Taliban regime fell in 2001. Hamida rushed to Kabul and decided not to leave, working for international NGOs supporting the development of the Afghan media. In 2004, she set up Awaz (‘the voice’ in Dari), an audiovisual production company, which became a major player in Afghanistan’s media and entertainment industry. In 2020, with friends and colleagues, she founded Begum Organization for Women.
