Planetizen Assembly 2023: Towards a Planetizen University

← See all the events

Organised by Project Planetizen

Note : This event takes place at 09:00 am New York City Time

In reply to the Transforming Education Summit’s Youth Declaration, the UN Secretary-General defined 4 ways to interact with youth:

  1. Ignore
  2. Pretend to Listen
  3. Dialogue
  4. Co-Construct the Future

LearningPlanet Youth fellows at UNGA are organising an inter-generational panel to share their idea: a Planetizen University co-constructed by youth! Universities need to be the place to co-create new knowledge across generations, to adapt to critical transitions towards a healthy, sustainable planet. We believe the first generation of planetizens have a role to play in envisioning and helping build this new model of higher education!

Join them at the UN General Assembly SDG Action Weekend in New York  for an intergenerational conversation on what a planetizen means to you, and how a planetizen university could be co-designed across generations!

Address :
Hyatt Grand Central, At Grand Central Terminal, 109 E 42nd St, New York, NY 10017, United States

If you cannot join in person : Please still fill in the registration form to be added to the Planetizen University community for upcoming virtual events!

More about Planetizen University:

Youth and the world face unprecedented challenges that require new ways of learning. Thus with ever more fellow planetizens, we believe there is an urgent need for a ‘Planetizen University’. This next generation university will equip global citizens with the knowledge, skills and mindset to become true ‘planetizens’ – good ancestors working towards a sustainable future for all, able to heal self, communities and the planet. The university would be co-constructed and governed with students, evolving through their contributions and feedback to ensure it fits their needs. It will use the latest technologies, including AI, and pedagogies and be distributed connecting learners and their communities. Most local universities are still structured around historical constraints that are increasingly outdated for today’s rapidly changing world. The Planetizen University could bring together the wisdom and knowledge within UN SDG and values with the hands-on learning and academic excellence of a university to inspire action for healthy futures.  We believe the first generation of planetizens have a role to play in envisioning and helping build this new model of education!
