World Teachers’ Day 2023 Celebrations

← Voir tous les événements

Held annually on 5 October since 1994, World Teachers’ Day celebrates all teachers around the globe and commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers which was complemented in 1997 by the Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel.

In 2023, with the theme "The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage", World Teachers' Day will aim to put the importance of stopping the decline in the number of teachers and then starting to increase that number at the top of the global agenda.

DAY I – 5th October (at UNESCO HQs and web streamed):
11:00-13:00 CET: Session on Recognition and appreciation: the role of teacher prizes in enhancing the status of the profession.
14:30-16:30 CET: 2023 WTD Opening Ceremony, which will present critical data on the attractiveness.

DAY II – 6th October (online):
12:00-13:30 CET: Session focussed on the unique challenges of maintaining the attractiveness of the profession in emergency contexts.
15:00-17:00 CET: Workshop on the “national and regional policy responses and programmes to improve the attractiveness of the teaching profession in response to the global teacher shortage".
