This interactive roundtable brings together several teaching advocates, global educationalists, and teacher development specialists to share their experience and perspectives on teachers and teaching in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). More specifically, the conversation will take on the following questions: What do we mean by “teacher agency”? Why is it difficult—but necessary—to empower teachers to be active agents of change (not merely passive deliverers of preset curriculum)? How can we and others work to scale the kinds of teaching practices, teacher development approaches, and teaching cultures that we believe are important in empowering teachers as change agents? And how can we ensure that these scaling approaches lead to whole-system changes? After about 25 minutes of this roundtable discussion, the conversation will be opened up to audience members for their questions, comments, and perspectives.
