During the UNGA in September 2024, member states endorsed a Pact for the Future that emphasises the need to co-construct the future with youth: “We commend the important contributions that young people are already making to the advancement of peace and security, sustainable development and human rights in their own countries. We can only meet the needs and aspirations of all young people if we systematically listen to them, work with them and provide them with meaningful opportunities to shape the future”. Recent academic and policy statements regarding the UN Agenda 2030 and the UN Pact for the Future are clear: we need more attention to the human side of the sustainability revolution.
The closing session of the LearningPlanet Festival centers around what such human skills for transformation may be and how to meaningfully involve youth in their development. The lens provided by the global movement Inner Development Goals will help us explore the question of such transformational skills now and for future generations through a highly interactive session. We will engage everyone in bringing their diverse perspectives, experience, and wisdom regarding such transformational skills and how these can be developed in line with the UN Pact for the future.
