Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé, appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, has devoted his career to international relations and development cooperation. Formerly Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2004–2010), he presided over the UN Security Council, chaired the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe, and the Council of the European Union, advancing multilateralism and key UN initiatives on development, health, and gender equality.
