David Germano
Professor Tibetan, Buddhist, and Contemplative Studies @ University of Virginia
David Germano teaches and researches Tibetan, Buddhist, and Contemplative Studies at the University of Virginia, where he is a professor in the Department of Religious Studies and executive director of the Contemplative Sciences Center (www.csc.virginia.edu). He has lived for many years in Tibetan communities, where he has worked extensively on programs of scholarly engagement, community service, participatory knowledge, digital technology, and entrepreneurship. In the context of CSC, he is focused on systems-based change in higher education to better prioritize student flourishing, the integration of social innovation with considerations of well-being and contemplative practices, and the conjoining of scholarly research into contemplation with the design of new applications in the modern world. The Center’s work includes a major randomized control trial of an innovative elementary school curriculum called the Compassionate Schools Project, the creation of two major educational networks, and new online portals focused on student flourishing and contemplation respectively.
