Racial and Religiophobia are complex issues-they are conveying false and misleading information but they may be based on a fact or reality. Come join us in the SLM Explavocate Forum in 2026 where we will learn about Islamophobia and racism against Asians (With a focus on East Asians due to founder’s heritage). We will dive deep on how these phobias were formed in history and explain particular events where hatred against these groups were maximized. As the world moves into the age of the internet, we will also look at how these phobias were formed through social media, such as selective coverage resulting from media biases.
Finally, this event will look at where particular misassumptions come from and why they are incorrect. As for Islamophobia, for example, we will explore the beliefs of groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda and explain whether these beliefs represent the religion or not. We would show a clip (secretly filmed) where I had a conversation with a Bangladeshi muslim taxi driver about the relationship between terrorism and Islam, and the true causes of terrorism in the Middle East.
