Inspired by the Minoans is an educational art project designed by museologist and educator Fani Kampani at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, one of Europe’s most important museums showcasing the vibrant civilization of Minoan Crete.
This hybrid session presents the project as a model of museum-based learning that bridges ancient heritage and contemporary art. Participants will join a guided presentation featuring photos and video excerpts from the original workshop with 16-year-old students, who engaged in a fictional scenario: imagining themselves as artists invited to present their works at the Berlin Biennale, where Greece was the guest country under the theme Contemporary Art and Cultural Heritage.
Within this imaginative framework, students explored Minoan symbols, colours, and myths, reinterpreting them through modern artistic media. The presentation will also highlight The Artistic Dialogue — how Minoan aesthetics continue to inspire creators worldwide, from fashion and design to contemporary visual arts.
Through reflection and discussion, participants will experience how heritage-based learning can nurture creativity, empathy, and sustainability, transforming the museum into a living space where the past meets the future.
