Over 300 million people worldwide live with a rare disease, many of which are rooted in genetic mutations, yet research into these conditions remains chronically underfunded. Furthermore, 1 in 50 people suffer from a gene-linked disease, meaning millions face delayed diagnoses, limited treatments, and uncertain futures.

Led by Rachel Luo, Genominate is a youth-led organisation which uses its 11-step BREAKTHROUGH framework to push for smarter health policies and increased investment in genetic research. The organization has published a global advocacy campaign about “96 Ways to Build Policies to Increase Funding for Research towards Gene Linked Diseases” on the Forum of the Future platform.

By empowering young people to shape evidence-based public policy, this project proves that youth leadership is essential to unlocking innovation, driving funding, and transforming outcomes for those affected by genetic conditions. Join us at Learning Planet Festival, co-organized by UNESCO and UN University, to drive systems level change across public and private sector and realize this mission.
