Susanne Neuer is a professor of biological oceanography. She earned undergraduate degrees at the Universities of Heidelberg and Kiel in Germany, an MS from the University of Washington, and a PhD from Oregon State University, followed by postdoctoral work in ocean biogeochemistry at the University of Bremen. Her research examines ocean life’s role in the carbon cycle and carbon sequestration, focused on the subtropical Atlantic, Arctic sea ice organisms, microplastics, and algal blooms. She has held many leadership roles and is currently the founding director of the School of Ocean Futures at ASU.
