ShieldHer, founded by Maika Liu, is an initiative dedicated to empowering young women and youth through financial literacy education as a pathway to independence, protection, and resilience, by equipping participants with essential skills in budgeting, saving, and responsible financial decision-making.
At its core, ShieldHer recognizes that financial vulnerability often heightens the risk of online sexual abuse and exploitation (OSEAC). Through education, mentorship, and community-based initiatives, the project aims to reduce these risks by helping women understand the connection between financial stability and digital safety.
ShieldHer not only teaches financial literacy but also builds awareness of online threats, promoting safe digital behavior and responsible technology use. By uniting financial empowerment and online protection, the initiative envisions a future where every young woman can stand confidently—economically independent, digitally aware, and shielded from exploitation. The project is a member of the Second Independent Progress Study on Youth, Peace and Security.
