The Call for Help, authored by Sze Wing (Jerry) Chan, is a children’s picture book on environmental protection that introduces the mission of Restoraction through storytelling and illustration. Set in the mangrove forests of Sabah, Malaysia, the story follows four animal guardians—Nala the Fishing Cat, Luma the Smooth-coated Otter, Kai the Proboscis Monkey, and Tomo the Sunda Pangolin—who begin to notice troubling changes in their home. As the rivers grow murky and the forest falls quiet, they realize that nature itself is calling for help.
Working together, each character uses their unique strengths—careful planning, hands-on creativity, exploration, and protection—to uncover the causes of environmental damage, from pollution to deforestation. Rather than waiting for others to act, they learn, plan, and take collective action to restore the mangrove ecosystem.
This event uses The Call for Help as a visual and narrative gateway to present Restoraction, a youth-led initiative founded to empower young people to co-design financially incentivized solutions that protect biodiversity while ensuring long-term commercial viability. The project encourages youth to transform environmental awareness into meaningful, scalable action. The story ends with a hopeful message: when we listen to nature and act together, healing is possible.
