Based on the Learning Planet Design Challenge, a group of youth judges led by Ziyue (Daniel) Shen and team is designing an assessment mechanism of international competitions, inclusive of youth perspectives. Young people understand the constraints, risks, and tradeoffs of building solutions while navigating school, limited funding, and uneven access to mentors and labs. Their presence reduces “adult bias” that rewards polished pitches over real-world usability, cultural fit, and peer adoption. Including youth strengthens fairness and builds civic capacity, empowering youths to choose their own leadership for the future. Thank you to UNESCO, UN University, and Learning Planet Academy for giving youths like us this opportunity.
