This panel brings together scholars and students to explore how diverse forms of knowledge, imagination, and lived experience shape our understanding of possible futures. Anchored in perspectives from comparative education, sustainability studies, and decolonial futures, the conversation highlights the competences learners need in order to navigate uncertainty, cultivate ethical responsibility, and participate meaningfully in transforming their communities. By engaging both established researchers and emerging student voices from Arizona State University, Université Paris Cité, and the University of Vechta, the session aims to bridge generational insights and academic traditions. Together, the panelists will reflect on how future-oriented education can move beyond conventional skills frameworks to embrace relational, ecological, and justice-centered approaches. This dialogue invites participants to rethink what it means to learn, act, and imagine in times of global complexity — and to consider how students themselves can shape more inclusive futures.
