COMMUNITY BASED SCHOOLS (CBS) ROUNDTABLE 2024 will be the first ever event specifically organised for, and by, community based school ,commonly known officially in Kenya as APBET ( Alternative providers of Basic Education and Training) schools. These are schools mostly located in the informal slum settlements, providing education for the children of the impoverished poor. They are never given a voice in any policy influencing dialogue, and are viewed as a mistake that should be wiped off by closure. In this round table summit, the participating schools will be given a platform to show case the positive side of these schools in pictures and displays, speak about their challenges working in an atmosphere of non inclusivity , non equity and little government support, and what they feel and think would be the best solutions to thier gaps in quality assurance threshholds, access to finance for habitat improvement, and policy change. The directors will also hear from systemic transformative experts like Laban Mtware, government officials, banking and finance officials, and from their own representative. The key outcome of these roundtable is a voice in support for inclusivity and equity in education service provision, including the 800,000 children in these schools.
