What is the goal of the LearningPlanet Festival?

Organised around the celebration of the International Day of Education (24 January), the Festival welcomes everyone who is passionate about learning and provides them a space to interact, engage and collaborate. What is the International Day of Education?

On 3 December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted with consensus a resolution proclaiming 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

By doing so, the international community reiterated that education plays a key role in building sustainable and resilient societies, and contributes to the achievement of all other Sustainable Development Goals as it dedicated a special day to celebrate education worldwide.

UNESCO, as the specialised United Nations agency for education, facilitates the annual observance of the Day in close collaboration with main education actors.

The Festival will take place all around the world featuring both online and local on-site activities from 24 to 27 January 2024, surrounding the celebration of the International Day of Education on 24 January 2024.

How can I get involved in the Festival?

You can take part in the LearningPlanet Festival events free of charge.

You can also actively contribute to its programming by organizing an online session or a local event with your community throughout the week of January 22 to 27.

You can already submit your event(s) using the online submission form here.

Who is it for?

The Festival unites a diverse community of passionate learners of all ages and countries – youth, teachers, educators, artists, scientists, social entrepreneurs, policymakers and more – to share ideas and experiences, showcase inspiring solutions, and feel empowered to come together around shared challenges.

Organisations (schools, universities, associations, NGOs, local authorities, etc.) are welcome to host their own activities and sessions.

Is the LearningPlanet Festival an open event?

Yes! Not only is the Festival an open event, but it is 100% co-constructed by the LearningPlanet Alliance and beyond.

Do I have to pay to participate in the Festival?

There is no cost needed to join the Festival – you can sign up for online events through our event platform by selecting the events you would like to attend and registering for them, adding them to your calendar, and making sure you’re signed up to our newsletter to receive regular updates.

What kind of sessions are allowed at the Festival?

All formats of sessions are accepted at the Festival. We recommend your session be as interactive as possible. Possible formats include master classes, round tables, interactive workshops, hackathons, games, artistic, sportive and well-being activities, concerts, exhibitions, etc.

Why should I organise an event at the Festival?

By planning an event during the Festival and actively taking part in the programme you will:

  • access a global community of passionate educators and changemakers,
  • network with peers and like-minded learning communities,
  • share ideas and experiences,
  • experiment new ways of learning, teaching, mobilising collective intelligence,
  • get the opportunity to discover and/or present inspiring initiatives/solutions,
  • contribute to the global education agenda.

Why should I publish my event on this platform?

This platform is a meeting space to organise events with your community, connect with other changemakers and stay up-to-date with the latest educational trends.

Do I need to have an account to create an event?

Yes, creating an account is a required first step to submit your event. This allows you to save your progress and update event details later (streaming links, speakers, additional text, etc.). You can create an account here.

Will LearningPlanet communicate about my event?

Given the number of events, each partner is in charge of communicating about its own activities as part of the event platform.

Will the LearningPlanet team help me communicate about my event?

Of course, once your event is submitted, use the communications kit to spread the news! You will find logos, visuals and suggested texts for your newsletter or your favourite social network.

Will LearningPlanet provide a registration link to my event?

We will not create a registration link for your event; if your event is online and/or in a hybrid format, please ensure that you generate and provide the link in the submission form.

Does my organisation need to be an Alliance partner to add an event for the Festival?

The Festival is open and inclusive to all. You do not need to be an onboarded partner to add an event for the 2024 Festival

What language will the Festival be in? Can I submit an event in any language?

The majority of online sessions, as well as the communication for the Festival, will be in English or French. However, you are welcome to organise an online event in any language of your choosing. Local events can be organised in any language.

Does my event have to be in English?

Your event may be in any language; please indicate it in the form. Please note that you may only pick one language per event.

How far in advance should I submit my event for consideration?

While you strongly recommend that you submit your events as soon as possible (this will allow you to communicate about your event for longer and give the opportunity for your community – and beyond – to know about it), we will get back to you within a few days of your submission.

Can I modify/delete my event after I have submitted it?

Yes; you can edit your event to your liking after submission; simply log in and access your personal dashboard.

Is it guaranteed that my event will be accepted?

We accept events that align with LearningPlanet’s values and vision. Learn more about what we do here.

Can LearningPlanet provide financial resources to support my event?

As the LearningPlanet Alliance event platform is distributed and co-created with hundreds of partners, we are not able to offer any financial support for events.
