Sumsul Islam Polok
Community Consultant & Transgender Right @ GIZ
Sumsul Islam Polok is a proud transgender woman and accomplished rights activist from
Bangladesh. Since 2015, she has championed access to justice, empowerment, and inclusivity for
marginalized communities. With over five years of experience at Bandhu Social Welfare Society, Polok has worked
extensively with gender-diverse populations, including Hijra individuals, to address their
challenges and promote equality. She is currently pursuing a professional Master’s in Governance
and Development Studies at Jahangirnagar University, becoming the first openly transgender
woman in this prestigious program. Polok now serves as a Community Consultant with GIZ Bangladesh, focusing on mobilization
and skill enhancement for marginalized groups.
