I was fortunate to be part of a fascinating panel during the ‘Best Foot Forward’ Session of the FutureMakers Forum, by the Standard Chartered Foundation. This session presented an array of tools to help youth to succeed and thrive in the future world of work, covering both theoretical and practical solutions to equipping yourself with the skills to succeed. I was delighted to share our strategies for helping youth to identify their purpose, notably inspired by the IKIGAI tool. This includes exploring what you love, what the world needs, what you are good at, and what you may find resources for. It is one of many tools we use to support the development of youth in the context of the unique challenges of the 21st Century.

Some takeaways from the event:

1. Mindset Matters: Youth have tackled so many challenges over the past 18 months; all the tools and ideas shared tackled head-on how to push yourself beyond your comfort zone, even in this difficult time.

2. The benefit of soft skills: Each talk highlighted the value of soft skills, spanning communication, self-confidence, contemplative practices, and more. There is a growing need for transferrable skills not just in the workplace, but when tackling the complex challenges of our time.
3. Intergenerational Dialogue is Essential
I learned equally as much from the questions asks, as from the presentations themselves. One such question: ‘How can we find balance in a world dominated by pressures and excess?’ We should be creating as many spaces as possible to learn across ages, cultures, professions, nationalities, and more.
