ACT4SDGs contributes a great deal to applying pressure on global leaders to accelerate the implementation of SDGs.
Their main action item is a global campaign held every year from the 20th to the 30th of September. The campaign serves to propel SDG-based actions at the local level and make them visible to the many. It concurs with the global leaders’ annual summit at the UN's New York headquarters so that they might hear their strong collective voice and act upon the SDGs.
Individuals or organizations are all encouraged to participate. So far, over 21 million people worldwide took action in over 1,000 cities and 180 countries. 50 million people joined the movement online reaching more than 260 million people with their stories of how we can all #Act4SDGs. These actions pertain to civil society organizations, religious groups, businesses, youth groups, and many others. Their core idea is to foster actions in solidarity to citizens that range from cleanups, demonstrations, campaigns, exhibits, conferences, innovation labs to parades, art installations, tree planting, pageants, radio talk shows, or even Twitter chats.
