FireStar is an independent research and engineering project that examines fire as a process rather than a single event. Traditional fire alarms are designed to react at a critical moment, but they provide little information about how a fire actually begins or develops over time.
FireStar addresses this limitation by focusing on data rather than reaction speed. Inspired by aviation black boxes, the system is designed to record early environmental changes such as temperature patterns and smoke behavior before, during, and after a fire. This preserved timeline allows fires to be analyzed as measurable sequences of events instead of isolated incidents.
Alongside the hardware system, FireStar Insight is an educational video series that explores fire science, detection limitations, and system design. FireStar is not a commercial product at this stage, but a research driven exploration of how better information can lead to better fire safety.
