The Sustainability Institute (SI) has provided a physical learning space to Stellenbosch University’s Diploma in Sustainable Development (under the School of Public Leadership SPL) since 2018. The diploma covers theoretical knowledge and practical skills in sustainable technologies, complexity and ecology, social action and leadership, small business management, and communication and storytelling.

Together, the SI and the SPL have collaborated on creating a programme that is deeply integrated with nature, context and practice. Our pedagogy is made up of place-based, reflective and experiential learning. At its core, the programme explores what it means to learn with and lead from head, heart and hands. A part of what brings this programme to life is the collaborative partnership between a higher learning institution (Stellenbosch University) and an NGO (the Sustainability Institute). On January 25th, we will be hosting a conversation that dives into how we facilitate this
